This was a 1970’s era prefab house which the owner purchased for retirement. In the renovation work that we did, the garage wing was reconstructed with a new 2nd floor master bedroom suite.  A new 2nd floor hallway connecting space was then created over the existing first floor main entry between the garage and the main part of the house. The design of the connecting space incorporates a balcony overlooking the entry and a barrel vault ceiling, which significantly improved the feeling and character of the main entry. The house was re-sided with wide bevel cedar clapboard throughout adding an overall quality and unified character to the house.

The small 1970′s vintage vacation house, which had been a pre-fab package type of building, was transformed with an addition of a living room, garage, work studio, a new kitchen, and a screen porch.  What was needed to make the transformation work was a new entry and a reorganization of the interior space to make the interior open and connected. The character of the house was tied to its context through the use of wood shingle siding, yet the modernist nature of the design is clear with the use of stucco elements, and a green, red, and yellow color scheme that the owner initiated. Subsequent owners kept the red and green in later renovations, but changed the original yellow stucco to an earthier gray/green color.

The existing house on Richmond Pond had a very odd entrance going down half a flight of stairs to a lower level and then up a full flight of stairs to the main living level.  The core of the design concept for the renovation reorganized that to create a new entry space in which the main flow of movement into the house led directly from a new entry space up a half flight of stairs to the main living space of the house.

The client wished to add a second story addition and completely renovate the interior of a recently purchased house in West Stockbridge on 8 acres. The floor plan of the kitchen, dining area, and rear entry were completely reconfigured to provide an open and modern plan.
